Obituary from The Carillon, Wednesday, July 14, 1993, page 10A - Steinbach, Manitoba:

      Pioneer Dies at 95 years

Peacefully, at the Henderson General Hospital in Hamilton on Saturday evening of June 12, Rosalie Kachur went into her eternal sleep at the age of 95.

Rosalie was born Nov. 7, 1897 at Snetin, Austria to John and Mary Chicanowski. When she was almost three years old, her family immigrated to Canada. July 12, 1900 they arrived in Winnipeg and settled in the southeastern part of Manitoba in a small settlement of Trentham. October of 1914 Rosalie was married to Samuel Kachur. Here they started their lives together, toiled endlessly in clearing land to make a homestead and encountered many hardships along the way.

They raised eight children, two sons and six daughters. When her husband Samuel died June 23, 1949, Rosalie moved to Hamilton, Ont. to be with her four daughters and one son. She was the beloved wife of the late Samuel Kachur, dear mother of Peter and his wife Stella of Trentham, Nell (Mrs Leo Henzel) of Winnipeg, Mary (Mrs Steve Stadnyk) of Sarto, Manitoba, Anne (Mrs John Phillips) of Burlington, Ont., Olga (Mrs Steve Verestiuk), Sophie (Mrs Jim Pidsadny) of Hamilton, Ont. Survived by daughter-in-law Olga Kachur of Lynden, Ont. and a son-in-law Mike Bogoslowski and her sister-in-law Olga Kachur of Burlington. Mrs Kachur is survived by 32 grandchildren, 51 greatgrandchildren, 11 great-greatgrandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son John in 1988 and daughter Frances in 1980.

Mrs Kachur was a member of the Ukrainian Church of the Resurrection, a long time member of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rosalie was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and The Golden Age Club.

In July of 1990, Rosalie was the recipient of a scroll and certificate in recognition of the hardships the pioneers endured in Manitoba. Stephen Juba presented this prestigious award at the Gardenton Ukrainian Festival to her son Peter.

Wednesday, June 16, 1993 following High Mass she was laid to rest at the Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Rest in peace.
