  • Notes
    • Following the death of his first wife, Edna Coll Pamment, Marita's father William found it difficult to care for 5 very young children. The 3 eldest (Harold, Hubert (Doc), and Leta) lived with their father and eventually with their stepmother Bessie in Lansing, Michigan. Marita went to live with Edna's sister Ada Coll (married to Morgan Vaughn) in Fowlerville and little 9-month old Noreen went to live with Aunt Flossie (Flossie Pamment married to Amal Chick). Following Flossie's death in 1930 from cancer, Noreen joined her sister Marita at Aunt Ada and Uncle Morgan Vaughn's home in Fowlerville. Morgan was the town barber.

      ----------

Marita played in the Fowlerville High School band and graduated from FHS in 1937.

She and sister Noreen both worked in Washington D.C. during World War II. Following the war Marita met Michael Novak in the same boarding house in Washington D.C. They were married on Sunday, May 5th, 1946.

In addition to living in Webberville and Fowlervile MI, Marita also lived in the following locations:
      Washington DC
      Chicago, Illinois
      Ypsilanti, Michigan
      Wayne, Michigan
      Inkster, Michigan
      Mt Clemens, Michigan
      Arlington, Texas
      Chesterfield, Michigan.

According to her son Steve, Marita enjoyed reading and was "absolutely passionate" about playing cards, especially pinochle and Euchre. Steve remembers that after breakfast the table would be cleared and out would come the deck of cards as the three sons and their Mother teamed up to play Euchre. She was very competitive and took her cards very seriously.

Steve also recalls that Marita was famous for her pies and baking skills. At holidays and large family gatherings, there was no doubt as to who would bring the pies - no one could compare to her blue ribbon pies. As son Steve remarked (and he is a baked goods aficionado) - "I don't recall ever having something from her oven that wasn't wonderful."

Marita died on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at approximately 7:30 p.m. following a lengthy period of hospital stays for her declining heatlh. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Will and Schwarzkoff funeral home in Mount Clemens, Michigan with the Rev. Michail T. Curro, senior pastor at Zion U.C.C. officiating.
