    • Michael was born in Cleveland OH during one of his father's illegal stays in the U.S. to work in a steel mill.

      Primarily he lived in Hamilton, Ontario. Following graduation from high school, he attempted to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It was then that he discovered that he was not a Canadian citizen.

      When war broke out (World War II) he went to Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, MI and joined the Army. He served in the Army between 1942 - 1945 in the 95th Infantry Division of the 360th Field Artillery Battery Headquarters Division. The division returned to the United States on June 29, 1945 where it began the process of demobilizing and releasing its soldiers from Army service. The division spent 151 days in combat, suffering 1,128 killed in action, 4,783 wounded in action, 394 missing in action, and 65 prisoners of war. The division also suffered 3,834 non-battle casualties, for a total of 10,204 casualties during World War II. The division in turn took 31,988 German prisoners.

      Following the war he met Marita Pamment in Washington DC. They were wed on Sunday, May 5, 1946.

      In 1950 Mike, Marita and son Michael were living in Chicago, IL at 2711 North Monticello Avenue, Chicago, IL. It was in Chicago that son Ronald was born on May 8, 1950 and died on May 12, 1950. The family subsequently moved to Michigan.

      Michael Novak

      Michael Novak, age 86, of Clinton Township and a former resident of Chesterfield Township, passed away on Wednesday morning, January 13, 2010, in Henry Ford Hospice in Clinton Township. He was born on February 22, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Nicholas and Julia (Borsa) Novak. Mike grew up in Canada and primarily in Ontario. After the United States entered World War II, Mike headed to Detroit and joined the United States Army. He served in the Army from 1942 - 1945 in the 95th infantry Division of the 360th Field Artillery Battery Headquarters Division. Following the war, he met and married Marita Pamment in Washington, D.C., and they subsequently settled in Michigan. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before Marita’s passing in January, 2003. Mike retired several years ago and enjoyed league bowling into his eighties. He was also very active at the Hometown Chesterfield Community Center where he regularly called bingo, played cards and participated in other activities. Mike is survived by his three sons, Michael (Cheryl) of Harrison Township, Steven (Jackie) of North Carolina and Jeffrey (Marilee) of Utah; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Angie Blaschuk and Jean (Angelo) Simeonidis. Mike was predeceased by his wife, Marita and sister, Olga. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010, at 12 noon in Zion United Church of Christ, New Street, Mount Clemens with the Reverend Scott Davis officiating. The visiting hours are on Monday in the Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot Avenue, Mount Clemens from 9-11 a.m. and at church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service.
