From the Find A Grave website on 19 Jun 2012:

Lucinda Herrick
Birth: unknown
Death: Sep. 7, 1877

The Herrick family only lived in the Salem Twp. area for six months before the husband, Rufus died and was buried there. Lucinda was pregnant at the time of his death and their 9 year old son, Daniel, helped to raise the family.

Apparently on Mar 10, 1726, he sold the homestead to his son Samuel and took back a mortgage conditioned for the support of himself and his wife during their natural lives. No record has been found of his death.

Apparently both Abraham and wife Rachel were still living in 1749/50 when son Samuel wrote his will dated 1/3/1749-50 in which he provided for the continued maintenance of "Hon. Father and Mother."

----------

From Sue Ayre: In the 1881 census, Elizabeth Pamment Sutton was living at 6 Victoria Place, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. It must have been a large house split into separate rooms as there are 5 separate families living there. The neighboring houses only have one family each, which makes the amount of people at #6 -- 9 adults and 18 children - seems way out of proportion.

NOTE: Family legend was passed down that an ancestor served in the Civil War and "died in a Confederate prison - Andersonville." No evidence was found of any ancestors in Andersonville - however this entry in the Ancestry.com Civil War database was thought to be William F. Cole. His age at enlistment coincides with an 1834 birth date.

Based upon the information above, a visit was paid to the National Archives in Washington DC to search for his Civil War military record and any other documentation. A military record and a pension record (listing Esther P. Cole as a minor requesting the pension - this being initially done so by "J. M. Avery, guardian.)"

From the military record of William F. Cole:

- Company B, 26th Inf. Regmt. Michigan Company Muster Reports - Jackson, Michigan. He is listed at a muster on Sep. 15, 1862. Then on Dec. 12, 1862. Muster-in date listed as December 5, 1862. Joined at Hanover, Michigan for a period of 3 years.

- There followed a number of muster reports where Pvt. William F. Cole (and Wm. F. Cole) were listed as present.

- Company muster for July and August 1863 he was listed as "absent" with the explanation that he was sick in General Hospital, Albany, New York.

- Company Muster-Out Roll. Pvt, Co. B, 26 Reg't Michigan Infantry, Age 28. Alexandria, Virginia. "Died Feb. 28, 1865 Salisbury NC (North Carolina) of starvation while prisoner of war."

The pension file for dependent daughter Esther P. Cole contains a "Memorandum from Prisoner of War Records" that states that Cole, William F., Private, 26th Regiment, Michigan Infantry, Co. B. was captured at Reams Sta. Virginia August 25, 1864 and confined at Richmond, Virginia August 27, 1864. Admitted to Treatment (the word "hospital" was crossed out) at Belle Isle Richmond, Virginia Sept. 7, 1864 for (word unreadable) fever. Sent to Salisbury North Carolina October 9, 1864 he died at Salisbury NC Feb. 28th, 1865 of starvation while a prisoner of war. NOTE: Belle Isle is located west of Richmond, Virginia in the James River. During the Civil War it was used as a prison.
