Obituary from The Carillon, Wednesday, July 14, 1993, page 10A - Steinbach, Manitoba:

Pioneer Dies at 95 years

Peacefully, at the Henderson General Hospital in Hamilton on Saturday evening of June 12, Rosalie Kachur went into her eternal sleep at the age of 95.

Rosalie was born Nov. 7, 1897 at Snetin, Austria to John and Mary Chicanowski. When she was almost three years old, her family immigrated to Canada. July 12, 1900 they arrived in Winnipeg and settled in the southeastern part of Manitoba in a small settlement of Trentham. October of 1914 Rosalie was married to Samuel Kachur. Here they started their lives together, toiled endlessly in clearing land to make a homestead and encountered many hardships along the way.

They raised eight children, two sons and six daughters. When her husband Samuel died June 23, 1949, Rosalie moved to Hamilton, Ont. to be with her four daughters and one son. She was the beloved wife of the late Samuel Kachur, dear mother of Peter and his wife Stella of Trentham, Nell (Mrs Leo Henzel) of Winnipeg, Mary (Mrs Steve Stadnyk) of Sarto, Manitoba, Anne (Mrs John Phillips) of Burlington, Ont., Olga (Mrs Steve Verestiuk), Sophie (Mrs Jim Pidsadny) of Hamilton, Ont. Survived by daughter-in-law Olga Kachur of Lynden, Ont. and a son-in-law Mike Bogoslowski and her sister-in-law Olga Kachur of Burlington. Mrs Kachur is survived by 32 grandchildren, 51 greatgrandchildren, 11 great-greatgrandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son John in 1988 and daughter Frances in 1980.

Mrs Kachur was a member of the Ukrainian Church of the Resurrection, a long time member of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rosalie was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and The Golden Age Club.

In July of 1990, Rosalie was the recipient of a scroll and certificate in recognition of the hardships the pioneers endured in Manitoba. Stephen Juba presented this prestigious award at the Gardenton Ukrainian Festival to her son Peter.

Wednesday, June 16, 1993 following High Mass she was laid to rest at the Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Rest in peace.

Obituary from the Winnipeg Free Press, December 28, 2007, Page 41:

HELEN NOVAK
September 17, 1927 - December 25, 2007

It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Novak announces her sudden passing on December 25, Christmas Day, at her residence
in Sarto, MB, at the age of 80 years. Mom leaves to mourn her passing her children, Irene (Walter) Yarema, Dennis (Steffie), Norman Adine) and Roger; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and her sister Ludwina Rasmussen. She was predeceased by her husband Jake (August 24, 1990), her six brothers, two sisters and her parents Mary and Julius Lischynski.

Mom took great pride in her yard work, flowers and her cooking. She loved to go shopping every chance she got and loved to be amongst people. She also enjoyed helping the ladies with cooking at Sarto Hall and at the church. She was a very dedicated member of the church. She was a sister for many years and had just retired from her duties this year in December. She enjoyed life to the fullest with her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and many friends. She was very fortunate not to be ill throughout her life. Mom really enjoyed her 80th birthday party on September 16, 2007, where about 80 guests attended her celebration.

Prayers will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, on Friday, December 28, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. with viewing at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto on Saturday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Father Douglas LeClaire and Deacon Leon Twerdun. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service are: Les Yarema, Brian Novak, Carl Lischynski, Bill Marynowski, Rob Mydaniuk, Brad Froese. Donations may be made in honor of Mom to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church - Women’s Auxiliary.

“We were very fortunate to have you around for advice and guidance.
We will miss you every day.”

SIMEONIDIS, Jean (nee Novak)

Courageously passed away at St. Peter's Hospital, at the age of 68, surrounded by her devoted family, on June 7, 2011. She loved to cook and had a passion for gardening, but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her cherished granddaughters. She will be fondly remembered for her selfless nature, sharp wit and devotion to her husband and children. She was not the "Clubby type" but she was a member of the "Golden Rules Club". Predeceased by her parents Nick and Julia Novak, beloved sister Olga and brother Mike. Cherished wife of Angelo "Mr. A" for 48 years. Adored mother of Phillip (Debbie) and Kristine Leach (Robert). Proud grandmother to Ashley, Lindsey and Chloe "Lolly". Loving sister and best friend to Angie. Special thank you to Father Wasyl Makarenko for his support of Jean and her family, and to Dr. Beverly Hattersley and the Staff on 3-West at St. Peter's for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), on Friday, June 10th between 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Panachyda will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral will be held at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 855 Barton Street East, on Saturday, June 11th at 9 a.m. Interment to follow in Woodland Cemetery. From Clem Hobbs, April 22, 2005:

Both Nathaniel & Mary stated that they were from Wilbraham when they married, but neither were born there and they lived in Kirtling after their marriage. In the parish registers for Great and Little Wilbraham there is no record of Nathaniel's birth. Some ten years ago I commissioned the Cambridgeshire County Archivist to search the existing parish reigisters, Bishop's Transcripts, Poor Law Records and Hearth Tax records for Nathaniel's birth date and location. Nothing was found and the Archivist was of the opinion that most likely he was born in another neighbouring county.
